2022 Ford F-150 Lightning
Ford’s new Lightning truck is entirely new for the 2022 model year, but it bears a name from Ford’s performance past. An electric pickup truck with an all-wheel-drive that can tow up to 10,000 pounds.
Here are a few things you need to know about the 2022 F-150 Lightning truck:
Performance
Featuring dual electric motors with all-wheel drive, the Ford Lightning comes standard with two electric motors. If the Long-Range battery is used, the combined motor power rises to 580 horsepower; the maximum torque is 775 lb-ft when using the standard battery. For Extended-Range models, it should reach 100 km/h in about 4.5 seconds.
Capacity to Tow and Payload
Officially, the production model can tow up to 10,000 pounds, but only trucks equipped with the high-capacity battery will be able to tow that much. The maximum weight capacity of a Regular Range battery is 7,700 pounds. Standard-Range models can carry 2,000 pounds of payload, while Extended-Range models can carry only 1,800 pounds.
Battery Life, Range, and Charging
Ford claims 370.12 km of driving range is available with a battery capacity of 98.0-kWh. The larger 131.0-kWh battery boosts the range to 515 km. A charging station of 110 or 220 volts will be available for owners’ homes, and the Lightning will be able to charge between 15% and 80% power capacity in about 44 minutes when plugged into a public fast-charging station.
Ford also engineered the Lightning to serve as a backup generator. When fully charged, the Ford Lightning can supply three days’ worth of electricity for the average household if the power goes out.
Cargo, Interior, and Comfort
As with the truck’s body, the Lightning’s cabin resembles the F-150, with a gasoline engine. However, there are some notable differences, including a voluminous cargo area in the front of the truck. It’s only offered in 5.5-foot crew-cab configurations. With its large front trunk, it can carry additional cargo weighing up to 400 pounds in the area normally devoted to the engine of a normal F-150.
Connectivity and Infotainment
The Sync 4 system is installed on 12-inch touch screens as standard on all models, but the 15.0-inch touchscreen is available on the Platinum and Lariat trims. An Apple CarPlay compatible head unit, Android Auto support, Wi-Fi connectivity, and in-dash navigation are included with this car. Thanks to Ford’s partnership with B&O, a premium stereo system with eight speakers on the Lariat and 18 speakers on the Platinum is just an amazing addition to the entertainment system.
Driver-Assistance and Safety Features
The new Ford BlueCruise semi-autonomous mode is available as an option, along with a host of driver-assistance features. The following features contribute to the safety of:
Pedestrian detection
Automated emergency braking
Automatic lane-keeping assist
Lane-departure warning
