The 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E
Now in its sophomore year, the 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E has simply gotten better. A terrific electric vehicle (EV) and fantastic compact crossover, the Mach-E does what other EVs have failed to do--feel inspired. Athletic and quick, the Mach-E offers an impressive range with an accessible price tag and all the fun that comes from a vehicle carrying the Mustang nameplate.
What's New for 2022?
In its second model year, the 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E becomes even more luxurious and capable for drivers. Both the standard range and extended range batteries were increased in capacity, offering more usable range. In addition, the California 1 model was upgraded to standard all-wheel drive, as well as a heated steering wheel and seats. Additional minor changes were made across the model lineup.
Models and Pricing
While Ford Canada has not yet released the models and pricing for the 2022 Mustang Mach-E, it will likely follow the same format as the inaugural model year. That means that the 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E will be offered for sale in four trim levels across Canada with a starting price around $50,000: Select, Premium, California Route 1, and GT Performance Edition.
For the best value, drivers should opt for the Premium model with the extended-range battery and all-wheel drive to combat winter weather conditions. The Mach-E Premium offers more powerful fast-charging capability compared to the Select model, and it also features 19-inch wheels, a Band & Olufsen sound system, a panoramic sunroof, a power liftgate, and Ford Co-Pilot 360 suite of driver-assist features.
Performance
The first thing that any driver should think about when considering an EV is performance--not only handling and steering or horsepower and torque but also driving range. Ford builds the 2022 Mustang Mach-E with a either a standard-range 70.0-kWh battery or an extended-range 91.0-kWh pack.
The extended-range battery is a great choice, as it offers all-wheel drive as well as 480 horsepower and 634 lb-ft of torque on the sporty GT Performance model. It rockets the vehicle from 0 to 97 km/h in just 3.5 seconds. Less powerful but no less fun, the non-GT models make between 266 and 346 horsepower.
Driving Range
In terms of driving range, drivers can get between 339 and 490 kilometres depending on the battery pack and type of electric motors. While it does not compare with Tesla's longer ranges, the Mach-E still delivers range akin to a full tank of gas on petrol-powered compact crossovers.
Interior
Ford offers maximum cargo and passenger space in the 2022 Mustang Mach-E thanks to the under-floor location of the battery pack. This includes the crossover's cargo space as well as a spacious front trunk area.
The dashboard design is streamlined with most controls located on the tablet-like portrait-oriented tablet touchscreen in the centre of the dashboard or the digital gauge cluster in front of the driver.
